New TCAF Member – Geoff Williams

Please help me welcome our newest club member Geoff Williams. I had the pleasure of meeting him at the field last night. He was flying his nitro powered Avistar.

Get out and enjoy the last few weeks of our flying season. The field is in great shape, the corn is down and the air is ripe for punching holes through.

Hello Fellow Fliers,

It pains me to tell you that our meeting next Monday evening, 7pm at the Park Township old firehouse, 1464 Ottawa Beach Rd is an inside event because that means our reasonably comfortable flying season is drawing to a close. I know, I know, there is still some time left but for me Summer Solstice is the most depressing day of the year. It signifies the start of the slippery slope toward winter. I won’t really cheer up again until…what, December 22nd – the shortest day of the year…I really have something to look forward to then!

Clicking on or cutting and pasting this URL should take you to a map locating the meeting site:

http://www.mapquest.com/mapscity=Holland&state=MI&address=1464+Ottawa+Beach+Rd&zipcode=49424-2562&country=US&latitude=42.793374&longitude=-86.167179&geocode=ADDRESS

Whoa, that’s a long one. If you have trouble with that URL, go to http://www.tulipcityairforce.com and click on old park township fire station at the top of the page and this map will pop up. Hey, you should go to that website anyway and see what a nice job Mike and Aaron did with it. You will see a picture of new member Jim Hartman glowing in the sunset holding his Radian. He soloed in a day and a half. I got to fly the Radian a bit and I’ll tell you that it is not only a wonderful trainer but it has no problem finding lift. It really flies great and is probably the easiest plane to learn to fly on the market at the moment.

For you new members, in the winter months when we have meetings, members are invited to bring projects they are working on or have finished for ‘show and tell’. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and get help. Don’t be afraid to ask any questions to the more experienced guys there. We all started out where you are today. If you have friends that you are trying to get interested in the hobby bring them along. The meetings typically last 1 to1 ½ hours depending on how much is brought in to look at and discuss.

Thanks to Bob Kovacks for taking the responsibility of pulling the irrigation pump for seasonal storage. We will need a volunteer to remove the club sign out front of the field. Garret has done this the past two years and he may be looking to pass on the task. He usually takes it to the Hobby Shop for storage I believe.

I hope to see all of you at the meeting. Please plan to attend if you can make it.

Regards,

Larry Weller – Vice President Tulip City Air Force.

New Member – Jim Hartman

Our latest member to join the club is Jim Hartman. He is currently flying a Parkzone Radian. This plane is a docile flyer that gives the pilot plenty of time to figure out what to do next. With a little help from Larry Weller, Jim was flying it in no time.  Jim wants to finish the year honing his piloting skills with the Radian and then move up to a couple of nitro balsa planes he has at home. Please join me in welcoming Jim to the club!
